  October 12th : Renewable energies

Through its network of competitiveness clusters, France is developing new technologies and sate-of-
the-art applications in the field of renewable energies, such as:
  • Improving electricity network stability through integration of solar and wind systems
  • Cost-effective and energy efficient crystalline Silicon solar cells and modules
  • Hydro-turbines with vertical axis to exploit ocean and river currents
  • Electricity production through hybrid solar-gas turbine systems

More than 150 specialized French companies are involved in the fields of wind energy, solar, geothermic, hydraulics, heat pumps, gasification, biomass and impact studies. Some of them have led very successful projects in the Kingdom.

As Thailand, France is committed to increase its share of renewable energies. This symposium will enable attendees to learn more about innovative pilot projects in such fields as waste-to-energy or solar PV, which have been stated as a top priority for the Kingdom of Thailand.

  October 13th: Green Building

  • In 2007, a study carried out by a team of Thai and French experts financed by the French Development Agency estimated that a 4.5 % increase in investment cost for medium rise (7 floor) condominium can lead to 30% energy savings, with a payback period of 5.6 years. AFD contemplates the idea of developing projects in the field of energy efficiency in buildings (constructions of new housing units, energy efficiency, retrofitting of commercial buildings).
  • Building is the first subject matter of the French Environmental Law passed in August 2009 to tackle global warming, with ambitious goals: reduction of energy consumption by 38% in ancient building by 2020, 400 000 retrofit projects per year from 2013, enforcement of low consumption building standards (less than 50 kWh/m2/year) from 2012 for each new building, etc.
  • The Environment Law will bring about 300 billion Euros investment in building sector by 2020.
  • French worldwide and innovative leaders in the building sector are long established in Thailand: Bouygues, Elyo, Lafarge, Legrand (Bticino), Saint-Gobain, Schneider Electric, Somfy.

October 14th: Air, Water & Waste Management

Industrial air monitoring: this seminar will address the challenges of technical measurements of air
pollution in industrial estates and technologies available to reduce emissions

Highly specialized French companies have developed solutions and innovative systems to monitor and treat industrial air pollution. These technologies could help Thailand achieve its goals, including the implementation of the Euro IV standards in industrial estates by 2012.

French technologies in the fields of water treatment and waste management have proven successful in cities like Singapore. Indeed, in 2008, Suez Environnement signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with the National Water Agency (NWA) of Singapore in charge of managing drinking water and waste water services.

In 2001, the French Government allocated 22 Million THB to the Department of Public Cleansing of BMA for technical assistance on solid waste management. It shows the great interest of France to support BMA in improving the quality of life of its citizens.

Water management has been stated as a priority in the "Thai Khaem Kheng" (Strong Thailand) plan. Prior to this plan, France financed the feasibility study for the Thonburi water treatment plant (BMA 6). Veolia, along with its partner Gusco, is operating 2 waste water treatment plants in Bangkok.

French municipalities of all size manage their municipal waste and water treatment through innovative Public Private Partnership schemes. This event will enable you to gain more knowledge on this efficient way to run utilities.

  October 15th : Sustainable Mobility

French technologies and know-how in urban transport are renowned worldwide
in trains, tramways, metros and intelligent transports systems (ticketing, traffic regulation, electronic toll collection, etc.).

With 1,550 km route distance, the French high speed rail network is the longest worldwide. In addition to that, in June 2008 a commitment was made to add 2,000km of new high speed lines to the present network by 2020.

The French government will start the “Le Grand Paris” initiative in 2010. This long term and mega urban project will metamorphose Paris into an attractive, dynamic and sustainable metropolis. Not less than 35 billion Euros will be invested, from 2012 to 2022, in efficient and high speed metro in order to interconnect Paris region.
